Old Friends

We took a trip home to visit my parents a couple of weekends ago for several reasons.
1. My oldest friend (we have been friends since we were babies and our mothers have been best friends since high school) Melissa, was having a baby shower that my mom and I were helping host in Waynesboro.

2. My parents 33 anniversary on August 15th.
3. We hadn't been to Waynesboro in a long time.

This is about bullet point number 1. Melissa and I grew up with only one house in between us. She is my oldest best friend. We played together most every day. We were very different though.
  • Melissa was a saver. I was a spender. She always had money in her little Augusta newsprint money jar that we got form our dads and I did not. I could never really figure out how that happened. I understand now.
  • We went to different schools. She went to the private school in Waynesboro and I went to public. But that never seemed to make a difference to us. I probably helped us stay friends since we had other friends from school.
  • Melissa was very neat and organized. I was NOT and it drove my mother crazy. Melissa would even get up on a Saturday morning after spending the night to go home to clean up before her mom got home from work at 12:00. I just stuffed things into my closet or under my bed and considered everything clean. I have learned that telling a 10 year old to clean her room is not good enough. You have to be specific. To me, my room was clean if everything was out of sight. Some things never change. It would be so nice to have maid to take care of some of those things. Oh well.

Moving on. Melissa got married two years ago to a wonderful man named Chris. They live in Statesboro, GA. Back in February, she called to say she was expecting. I was so excited because I was also expecting too. She is due October 10 and I am due the 18th. How fun and exciting to have babies that will be a week or so apart. She is having a little girl named Lauryn Chandler.

Now, I mentioned earlier that we lived with one house in between us. In that house lived our friend Jan who was also our age. We were all born within 2 months of each other and played together a lot. Jan now lives in Savannah with her husband and little girl named Ella who is a few months older than Isabella. Well, she is also expecting and due October 14th. We will all have a new one within a week or so of each other. How cool is that?

So we were all at the shower and got to catch up a little and also had a picture taken because all of us being pregnant again at the same time isn't likely to happen again.

We also were able to visit my Grandma (my dad's mom) who we had not seen is awhile. It was a nice visit an she is always complaining that she doesn't get to see us enough. Which is true.
